Ph.D. Jill Pruetz
Pruetz initiated and has been Director of the Fongoli Savanna Chimpanzee Project in Senegal since 2001, and the study has continued, uninterrupted since that time. She is a biological anthropologist, specializing in primatology and is a Professor of Anthropology and Honorary Professor of International Studies at Texas State University. Pruetz earned her undergraduate degrees at Texas State University and a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in USA and did postdoctoral research at Miami of Ohio University, USA. Her interests are in primate behavioral ecology and using primates as models of behavior to better understand hominin (early human) behavior. She has taught primate field schools in Costa Rica, Panama & Nicaragua.
